Hello!

It’s that time again! The last Spellbinder Saga Novella is up on Amazon! It’s been a great, worthwhile journey for me. I’ve learnt a lot, trying to write it as TBC series rather than a standalone novel. Mainly that people don’t enjoy TBCs series as much as things with a firm ending which is finally here 😉. So that's it! The whole story is out there now for people to enjoy (or not, let me know!).

Thanks so much for your support. I’ve seen the mailing list steadily growing. Though the reviews aren’t flying in, I think we’ve reached a thousand copies of SBS sold/downloaded over all the sites which honestly exceeded my expectations. I know I should do more work trying to market books, but I struggle to put stuff out there on social media. I overthink things, and I don’t want to come across as disingenuous, also I’ve never really been much of a user of social media before now… I don’t really understand the rules and find that worrying about it and engaging with it takes time away from writing, which I’d honestly rather be doing. Soft-spoken writer monk as a friend of mine used to say.

It’s not because I’m not proud of SBS, I am! Extremely. It was ambitious, it’s got problems, sure, pacing could be better, it’s not as smooth as I’d like it to be, but it’s a fun, exciting, and epic story that’s got lots of awesome scenes and fun characters. I think 😊.

Writing SBS has been a great learning experience. Between SBS and the other novels I’ve completed this year, I feel like I’m ten times the writer I was last year when I started trying to put words down on the page after a five year break.

This year, I’ve completed two other novels besides the SBS novellas and started three more, one of which I’ll finish this month (October) and start submitting in December 2020. I’d really like to get a traditional publishing deal. So I’m going to keep submitting one of those two novels after more rounds of edits and another round of beta feedback. I’m hoping the Sci-fi book I’m working on now, Apex, is going to be the one to do it if the comedic fantasy I’ve sent out to a couple agents doesn’t get any bites.

Below is a list of sites. Some where you can download the first two SBS novellas for free, others where they are still being sold, places where you can leave reviews, and comments, and engage with my books and fellow readers. If you haven’t joined good reads, I’d urge you to. I did it this year because I was told as a writer I had to. It’s honestly an awesome place where I’ve discovered a lot of books that are getting the attention they deserve and a lot of writers who are making wonderful things and deserve more praise for their art.

Even though it’s unlikely I’ll have another release this year unless I decide to self-publish my comedic fantasy, I’m still around. I’m still working. Every day. Chipping away at word counts, trying to put what I see in my mind into words that make a reader feel something. I’m always keen to learn, to talk to readers and fellow writers, to understand what they liked and what they didn’t (and why) because I want to be great at this writing thing and I’m going to keep trying until I get there. I’d rather fail at this than be successful at anything else.

Thanks for supporting me. Thanks for the reviews. Thanks for being a reader.

Hello Wonderful Readers, Spellbinders, Druids, Bards, Warriors, and Surly Wizards!

Today is the release of another Spellbinder Saga Novella! Book 3, There’s No Place Like Home is available on Amazon. Whoop! It’s another fun instalment in the Artemis story with some new characters, some long-awaited showdowns, and one or two sneaky tricks.

Beta-reader feedback:

“I really like the look back at the main characters … (spoilers) … it's nice to see what drove them to leave and become bounty hunters.”

I agree. It was important to me that we understand our heroes pasts a bit. Although, Brad, your suggestion of doing an Artemis prequel is an idea I like the sound of more and more. Might be a project for next year!

“There are a lot of great twists and turns in the story.”

“Fun reading!”

Thank you.

Thanks once again to Ruivo for our incredible cover.

Some housekeeping:

I’m considering making book 1 free for a couple weeks in the next month to acquire some new readers, but I don’t want my early supporters to feel cheated for having bought it. So if you’ve purchased the first book, I’d like to give you a copy of book 3 for free any time this month on Amazon. Just send me a comment on my site or if you have my email address from chatting to me previously send me an email. I’ll send you a copy of book 3 no questions asked.

As usual, book 3 will be cheaper for the first month, only $1 and then next month it’ll rise to the regular retail price of $3.

If you could spare the time to leave a review on Amazon or on the Good reads page I’d be so appreciative – it really helps with getting the books more visibility. You can also leave reviews after reading it on your kindle by scrolling to the last page. I’m very happy with the 5 stars, but I think more important than stars, a useful review talks about the problems with a book as well as what made it enjoyable. I learn from it, and other readers take note of it. As always I’m incredibly grateful for your generosity, it helps me and the books immensely.

Book 4 & 5 will release at the end of August/early September and end of September, respectively. But, Rhett, you said, “One a month.” I did! I’m sorry. The reason for delaying book 4’s release by a month is two-fold. One, I need to give the beta readers a break – between Artemis and a novel I’m hoping to query in September some of them haven’t read another person’s writing in a few months. Two, the writing quality and editing get better with each novella (I hope), so I’d really like to have book 4 & 5 beta read and edited together to ensure they are of the highest quality and I don’t miss out on tying up anything vital to the plot.

On a slightly different note, I hope you’re taking a bit of time for yourself, being present with family or friends or chatting to them more if you’re isolating. Please take a break to practice a little bit of self-care whatever that means to you: read, meditate, go for a walk, play with the pets or your kids, or whatever recharges your batteries. You’re not alone! This virus sucks, but we’ll get through it!

Happy reading! I hope you enjoy book 3. Stay safe!

Best,

Rhett

Book 2 of Spellbinder Saga.

Artemis discovers Nowhere and the gods burst on to the scene in their own special ways. Beta readers are saying:

"An excellent continuation of the first book and has a really good flow to it"

- thank you!

"So much fun!"

- that's the goal here. I'm not writing the next Great Gatsby, I'm writing fun, silly books with zany characters. It's a battle to get the tone right - serious sh*t happens sometimes, but it's first and foremost about joy and entertainment.

The awesome cover is once again gifted to us by Ruivo De Oliveira. If you'd like to reach out to him contact him through his page. SBS Book 3: There's No Place Like Home should be available before the end of June. There's very little time left, but if you would like to be a part of the beta read become a subscriber and reply to the welcome mail that you'd like to join the beta reads team.

To all the subscribers, thanks again for taking a chance on me. Work on book 4 & 5 has started. Every thing is plotted. I think the writing quality in 2 has jumped up a few notches - I hope to maintain the same with 3. Thanks for the likes and reviews. Don't be shy though, if there's things you don't like you can mention them - it won't hurt my feelings. It may help to make the books better which is my primary goal!!

Stay Safe! Be Kind! It's bad-guy-hunting-time!
